Captain – Engine 3

Captain Melsar Hernandez currently leads Roosevelt Engine 3, a distinguished unit of the Roosevelt Fire Department, located on Babylon Turnpike. This unit, consisting of Engine 733 and Quint 734, has a storied history, having served the community from the same location for a century. Notably, the firehouse has undergone various transformations and even survived a fire in the late 1980s. On June 10, 2023, Captain Hernandez and his team celebrated the company’s 100th anniversary, an event attended by members of the Roosevelt Fire Department, neighboring fire departments, family, and friends. Roosevelt Engine 3 is also the proud base for Chief of Department Hector Tyler, Jr., and Second Assistant Chief Abner Vasquez. Under Captain Hernandez’s leadership, the unit commemorated this centennial milestone, marking a century of dedication and service to their community. The team looks forward to continuing their legacy of safety and service in the years to come.
